WHY DISASTER RESPONSE

India’s geographical diversity makes it highly prone to natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, droughts, and cyclones. According to the National Disaster Management Authority, nearly 58.6% of the landmass is vulnerable to earthquakes, 12% to floods, and over 5,700 km of coastline is exposed to cyclones and tsunamis. Furthermore, 68% of cultivable land faces recurring droughts — highlighting the urgent need for preparedness and rapid response mechanisms.

The impact of disasters is often worsened by factors like unplanned urbanization, environmental degradation, climate change, and pandemics, which threaten both human lives and sustainable development. Recognizing these challenges, Suvarna Laxmi Foundation prioritizes disaster readiness and community resilience to safeguard vulnerable populations.
